LINCOLN - The No. 11-seeded Lincoln High School girls basketball team pulled off its second straight shocker Thursday night, upsetting No. 3-seeded Mahomet-Seymour, 63-51, to win the Lincoln Class AA Regional.
The Railsplitters (15-13), who won their second straight regional and 16th in school history, advance to Tuesday's 7:30 p.m. Normal West Sectional semifinal where they will face Kankakee McNamara. Lincolnupset No. 6-seeded NormalCommunityTuesday.
Christine Presswood powered Lincoln with 30 points and Chrissy Schonauer added 14. Presswood scored 19 in the second half.
Mahomet-Seymour (21-7) received 22 points from Kathleen Donoho. Laura Morris added 12 points and Hillary Hatfield 11.
Mahomet-Seymour jumped out to a 16-13 lead after one quarter, despite nine points from Presswood, before the Railsplitters rebounded to take a 27-25 lead at the half.
Lincoln continued to pull away in the third quarter, outscoring the Bulldogs 17-11 in the period, to take a 44-36 lead with one period to play. The Railers made 9 of 12 free throws down the stretch to seal the victory.
