5 years ago (2002): Tarise Bryson said he feels cheated and frustrated after learning the NCAA denied him another year of eligibility with the Illinois State basketball team. Bryson, the Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Year in 2001, suffered a season-ending wrist injury in the Redbirds' opening game last winter.
15 years ago (1992): J. Ross Graham of Evergreen Racquet Club became a certified member of the U.S. Professional Tennis Association, the world's oldest and largest association of tennis-teaching professionals.
25 years ago (1982): Russell Stine of Secor will be inducted into the Trapshooting Hall of Fame at the Illinois State Trapshoot in Springfield. Stine has captured 16-yard and handicap trophies in many states over the years including the Vandalia Handicap at the Grand American Shoot in Ohio.
50 years ago (1957): Dave Shinneman, a graduate of Normal Community High School, won the Anna L. Cogdal trophy as the most valuable track man at Illinois State. Shinneman was the IIAC champion in the 880-yard run and led the Redbirds in scoring for the season.
