5 years ago (2002): Ashley Spivey hurled a four-hit shutout as the BNGSA Angels 18-and-under travel softball team beat the Decatur Panthers, 5-0, in the opening round of the Springfield Tuneup. Katie Bradley had three RBI in O'Brien Automotive's 4-0 win over the Midstate Rippers.

15 years ago (1992): Bloomington's Brad Rozboril won the Twin City Open men's championship by upsetting top-seeded Bill Gaffigan of Springfield, 6-1, 6-2. Rozboril, a member of Bloomington High School's state-champion tennis team this spring, was the No. 2 seed.

25 years ago (1982): Women wrestlers Bunny Love and Rita Diamond will be featured on the professional wrestling card at Fred Young Fieldhouse. Also featured are Dick the Bruiser, Spike Huber, Sheik Ali Hassan, Abdullah the Great, Wilbur Snyder and Paul Christy. The Normal Police Benevolent Association is sponsoring the event.

50 years ago (1957): Bruce Johnston's clutch single with two out and the bases loaded in the ninth inning climaxed a four-run rally that gave Russell S. Proctor Insurance an 11-10 victory over American Legion in the Municipal League. His sharp liner brought Bob Jones home with the winning run.
