BLOOMINGTON — Linebacker Austin Davis has signed to play with the Bloomington Edge for the upcoming Champions Professional Indoor Football League season.
Davis, a Normal Community High School product, played four seasons as a starting linebacker at Illinois State. He highlighted his senior year at ISU with a season-high six tackles in the Redbirds’ second-round playoff win at Appalachian State.
He helped NCHS win the 2006 state championship as a junior and made the Pantagraph’s All-Area team the following year.
Davis becomes the Edge’s first announced signee since the hiring of John Johnson as head coach in July.
The Edge begin their second season in the CPIFL on March 7 at the Salina (Kan.) Bombers. The home opener at U.S. Cellular Coliseum is scheduled for March 29 against the Omaha Beef.
