BLOOMINGTON — The Bloomington Thunder will open their fourth United States Hockey League season on the road Oct. 7 and will play 10 of their final 13 games at home as the team released its 60-game schedule Tuesday.
The USHL season begins two weeks later this year, with the Thunder opening with a two-game series Oct. 7-8 at the Youngstown Phantoms. Bloomington concludes its regular season at home April 14 against the reigning Clark Cup champion Chicago Steel.
Many of the Thunder's 30 home games will come in the second half of the season. Included is a season-long seven-game homestand at Grossinger Motors Arena that spans nearly all of March. The second-longest homestand is a five-game stretch in mid-January.
The home opener is Oct. 13 at 7:07 p.m. against Cedar Rapids. All Friday and Saturday home games will begin at 7:07 p.m., while Sunday home games will start at 4:07 p.m. The Thunder’s lone Monday game, on Jan. 22 against Lincoln, will be an 11:07 a.m. puck drop. The full promotional schedule for the 2017-18 season will be released later.
In the preseason, Bloomington will again take part in the USHL’s Fall Classic in Cranberry Township, Pa. All 17 USHL teams will participate in the same preseason showcase from Sept. 27-Oct. 1 at the UPMC Lemieux Sports Complex.
