NORMAL — Cooper Bailey and Brock Hirn took a 5-up lead after eight holes and cruised to a 5 and 3 victory over qualifying medalists Bryan Mounce and Mike Aslinger in a Bloomington-Normal Two-Man Best Position championship flight second-round match Wednesday at Weibring Golf Club.

Bailey and Hirn, who were 6-under-par for 15 holes, advanced to Friday's quarterfinals to face Joe Rieger and Logan Stauffer.

Two other championship flight second-round matches involving golfers who played earlier in the day in the Illinois State Amateur Championship at Bloomington Country Club were held.

Brothers Michael and Branden Mounce, who didn't make the cut at the State Am, took out their frustration by routing Brian Zimmerman and Nolan Harris, 5 and 4. The Mounces were 11-under through 14 holes.

Rob Wuethrich, who is tied for fifth at the State Am, and partner Conner O'Neil went 8-under through 15 in eliminating Tyler Kanski and Mike Shepard, 4 and 3. Wuethrich and O'Neil face Shad Lindsey and Andy Schuster in the quarterfinals.

Todd Engle and Joe Blumenshine defeated Mike Liesman and Tim Ramsey, 6 and 5, in a senior division quarterfinal.
