Bloomington High School graduate Zachery Bradford cleared his only pole vault attempt in the IAAF World U20 Championships at Tampere, Finland, on Wednesday to advance to Saturday’s 12-man final.
Bradford, a Kansas recruit with a career best of 18 feet, 2½ inches, made his opening height of 17-0¼.
Other notable qualifiers were fellow American Cole Riddle, an Arizona State recruit from Surprise, Ariz., and world junior record holder Armand Duplantis of Sweden. With a lifetime best of 19-5½, Duplantis is the heavy favorite on Saturday.
Bobcats fall in extras: The Bloomington Bobcats scored a run in the bottom of the ninth to send the game into extra innings before falling to the Northwest Indiana Oilmen, 7-5, in ten innings at O'Neil Park.
Garrett Shea belted a second inning homer for the Bobcats and drove in a pair of runs. Matt Barnes had three hits and an RBI.
Brock Immke was the losing pitcher after giving up two unearned runs in the 10th.
