Pontiac native Emily Grove pole vaulted 14 feet, 1¼ inches to tie for 10th place in the USATF Championships on Sunday at Des Moines, Iowa.
The 25-year-old former South Dakota All-American went out at 14-7¼. She came in with a season best of 15-1½. Olympic silver medalist Sandi Morris won at 15-9 and made one attempt at 16-2½ before the meet was delayed by lightning. She did not make another attempt.
A two-time state high school champion, Grove cleared a still-standing Illinois all-time prep best of 13-5 in 2011.
No-hitter for Day: Morgan Day hurled a no-hitter in leading the Avanti's Angels 99 to a 5-0 win over the Kansas City XPlosion at the PGF National Qualifier in Crown Point, Ind.
Day struck out nine and walked one.
Natalie Cokel and Emily Graver each had two hits and a pair of RBIs for the Angels, who had eight hits in support of Day's gem.
Bobcats drop two: The Bloomington Bobcats opened their doubleheader with the DuPage County Hounds by scoring three runs in the top of the first inning. They would be the only runs the Bobcats would score the remainder of the day in dropping a pair of games to the Hounds at the Lemont Sports Complex.
Chris Monroe had two hits and Mitch Fairfield delivered an RBI single among his two hits, but the Bobcats fell 8-3 to the Hounds in the opener.
Bloomington could muster only four hits in game two and lost 6-0.
