DES MOINES, Iowa — Drake used solid first-half shooting and balanced scoring to hold off Illinois State, 45-41, in Missouri Valley Conference men's basketball action Tuesday night.
The Bulldogs outscored the Redbirds 27-20 in the first half, shooting 52 percent (11 of 21) from the field compared to just 30 percent (8 of 27) for ISU.
Drake, 12-13 overall and 5-9 in conference play, shot just 19 percent (4 of 21) in the second half, but managed to hold off the Redbirds (8-14, 3-11), who made just 8 of 23 shots in the period.
Greg Dilligard paced ISU with 12 points and eight rebounds, while Chaun Brooks, Al Stewart and Aliou Keita each had eight points to lead Drake.
