Junior Anthony Rivera scored a game-high 16 points to lead Illini Central High School to to a 56-48 victory over Petersburg Porta in a Sangamo Conference basketball game Tuesday at Mason City.
Reid Mills scored 12 points for the Cougars, who improved to 5-3 overall and 2-1 in the Sangamo.
The game was close from the start as Illini Central led after the first quarter 14-12 and increased that lead to 30-25 at halftime. The Cougars were ahead 46-40 going into the fourth quarter and Rivera had six of his points to keep pace with Porta (0-5, 0-4) for the victory.
Steve Boehm and Keagan Robinson each had 10 points for Porta.
Serena 76, Woodland 45
Senior Chris Cassady scored 12 points to lead Woodland (0-9) but it wasn't enough as Serena (9-0) defeated the Warriors in a nonconference game at South Streator.
Brian Council added 11 points for the Warriors.
Down 21-8 at the end of the first quarter, Woodland could not overcome the balance scoring that Serena exhibited. Woodland trailed at halftime 39-17.
Serena was led by Kyle Mason with 17 points while four other players scored in double figures.
Mount Pulaski 78, Greenview 32
Paul Foley scored a game-high 18 points to lead Mount Pulaski (5-4) to a nonconference victory over visiting Greenview.
Brad Deibert and Chris Smith each scored 12 points for the Hilltoppers.
Mount Pulaski got off to a fast start as Deibert scored 10 of his 12 points in the first quarter to give the Hilltoppers a 20-4 lead. Then Foley and Smith each had six points in the second quarter to give Mount Pulaski a 37-7 halftime lead.
