5 years ago (2014): ESPN.com and The Tennessean reported that Illinois State basketball associate coach Dana Ford is expected to be named Tennessee State’s head coach. The 29-year-old Ford will become one of the youngest head coaches in the country.

15 years ago (2004): Illinois Wesleyan’s Brynn Hasse was named the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin softball batter of the week for the third time this season. Hasse hit .633 in eight games with 19 hits in 30 at-bats and 12 runs scored. 

25 years ago (1994): Illinois State’s basketball team grew by two when Marcus Franklin and Dan Muller signed national letters-of-intent. Franklin is a 6-foot-7 power forward from Hutchison (Kan.) Community College. Muller is a 6-6 forward/guard from Central Catholic High School in Lafayette, Ind.

50 years ago (1969): Bloomington High School graduate Jim Brubaker, competing for host University of Illinois, set a stadium record in the discus throw with a toss of 178 feet, 1 inch in the Illinois Invitational Track Meet.
