5 years ago (2014): Central Catholic High School senior guard Nick Norton was a first-team selection on the Associated Press Class 2A all-state boys basketball team. The 5-foot-11 Norton leads Central with 17.5 points and 6.3 assists per game.

15 years ago (2004): Illinois Wesleyan’s 4x400-meter relay team of Gianina Taylor, Katie O’Rourke, Nicole Williams and Gena Rawlins won the national title at the NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships at Whitewater, Wis., in 3 minutes, 52.36 seconds.

25 years ago (1994): Nathaniel Meiss, point guard for state runner-up Eureka, was selected for the Associated Press’ Class A All-Tournament basketball team. Meiss is the son of Eureka coach Tim Meiss. Bob Wettstein of Eureka was a second-team selection.

50 years ago (1969): Despite a 29-point effort by Don Hamel, Normal Community used super scoring balance and came from behind in the final 34 seconds to defeat Mendota, 79-76, in the University High School Sectional Basketball Tournament at Horton Fieldhouse.
