5 years ago (2014): Illinois Wesleyan sophomore George Alex and freshman Martin van Dooren were second-team selections on the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin men’s tennis all-conference team. The pair were 4-1 versus CCIW foes at No. 1 doubles and 9-5 at No. 1 overall.

15 years ago (2004): Normal West senior Holly Bennett won her fourth event of the night with a school-record triple jump of 34 feet, 11½ inches in the Bloomington Class AA Sectional track and field meet.

25 years ago (1994): Dawn Davis, a 27-year-old Bloomington resident, won the Lake Run 7.5-mile road race at Lake Bloomington for the second straight year. Davis bested a field of 47 women with a time of 47 minutes, 48 seconds.

50 years ago (1969): Joe Freehill slammed a two-run double to center in the top of the seventh inning as host Central Catholic nudged University High in the District Baseball Tournament, 5-4. Freehill’s sinking liner to right-center came after starting pitcher Mike Hundman had singled and Gary Legner reached on a fielder’s choice. Freehill scored the winning run on Tom Corbitt’s single to right.
