5 years ago (2013): Illinois State junior forward Rachel Tejada won her third consecutive Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Year Award in women’s soccer. Redshirt junior Aryn Newsom was named the league’s Goalkeeper of the Year, while Hannah Leinert received the Freshman of the Year honor.

15 years ago (2003): After dropping its opener, 30-28, Illinois State’s volleyball team got going in the next three games and won its 20th straight match over Evansville, 30-28, 30-16, 30-20. Emily Kabbes had a team-high 21 kills and setter Kelly Rikli finished with 59 assists, two aces and two digs for the Redbirds.

25 years ago (1993): Normal Community’s Angie Roberts and Keri Miles, along with Bloomington’s Liz Sharp, were named to the Big-12 Conference all-star volleyball team. All are seniors and join nine other players on the first team.

50 years ago (1968): Joe Stieglitz scored four touchdowns, two on punt returns and two on runs from scrimmage, to lead Illinois State University’s freshman football team to a 48-6 victory over Joliet Junior College at Hancock Stadium.
