5 years ago (2014): Gabriel Walker, 17, of Walker’s Tae Kwon Do of Bloomington, earned a gold medal in the 18-and-over Black Belt sparring division of the recent U.S. National Federation International Tournament.

15 years ago (2004): AAU National Heptathlon champion Katie Nelson of Normal recently broke Olympic gold-medalist Jackie Joyner-Kersee’s 800-meter record at the Junior Olympics. Nelson crossed the finish line in 2 minutes, 17.78 seconds.

25 years ago (1994): Adrian Ingram of Bloomington defeated Naperville’s Jason LeMaistre in a playoff to win the boys 16-18 title in the Illinois State Junior Open at the ISU Golf Course. Both finished at 75.

50 years ago (1969): Bloomington won its first Central Illinois Collegiate Baseball League championship since 1966 with a 3-2 victory over Macomb. John Ferri pitched a five-hitter and ran his personal record to 7-2 while left fielder Jim Cox provided the winning margin with a two-run homer.
