5 years ago (2013): Gabby Pearl scored 26 points and grabbed 19 rebounds to lead host Blue Ridge past second-seeded Heritage, 50-49, in the semifinals of the Class 1A Blue Ridge girls regional basketball tournament at Farmer City.

15 years ago (2003): Ashlee Pistorius and Emily Meier combined for 36 points, 28 in the first half, as University High, the state’s No. 4-ranked girls basketball team in Class A, finished its regular season with a 55-39 victory at Pontiac. U High won its third straight Corn Belt Conference title with a 10-0 mark.

25 years ago (1993): After presenting Bloomington wrestling coach Mark Gardner with an unexpected Big 12 Conference title last week, the Purple Raiders floored him again by winning the team title at the Class AA Morton Regional. Bloomington’s lone champion was Rob Chicoine (189).

50 years ago (1968): Normal Community outscored Bloomington 15-0 in a four-minute span midway in the second period and ran away with a 76-59 victory over the Purple Raiders. Ted Neuman’s 25 points led the Ironmen, who finished with a 52 percent shooting average.
