5 years ago (2013): Former Illinois State athletic director Rick Greenspan says he is resigning as Rice University’s athletic director after three years in the position. In a statement issued by the university, Greenspan says he will expand his consulting business and pursue other opportunities offered him.
15 years ago (2003): University High School junior Ashlee Pistorius was named Player of the Year by the Illinois Soccer Coaches Association. She is the first player from outside the Chicago area to receive the award. Pistorius, an All-American and three-time All-State choice, led the intercity with 37 goals despite missing six games to injury.
25 years ago (1993): Bloomington centerfielder Jason Scott reached base five times, scored three runs and drove in another to help the Intercity defeat the Area, 10-6, in the 37th annual Pantagraph All-Star Baseball Game. Tri-Valley’s Josh Roop earned the Rory Hodgson Most Valuable Player award with four hits.
50 years ago (1968): Richard Wisner of Downs carded a hole-in-one on Highland Park Golf Course's 135-yard 12th hole. Rodney Cooke, Bryce Sides and Bill Rusk saw Wisner make the ace with a 6-iron.
