5 years ago (2013): Mahomet-Seymour senior pitcher and infielder Alie Tarrant has committed to play softball at Butler University. Tarrant set Mahomet-Seymour’s season record for strikeouts as a junior and has a career batting average of .433 while being named an all-Corn Belt Conference selection three times.
15 years ago (2003): Central Catholic and University High tied for the Corn Belt Conference boys basketball title. Mike Lenahan’s 18 points led Central over Prairie Central 59-51 while Nick Chiodo and Mike Henderson combined for 14 points in U High’s 46-44 win over Mahomet-Seymour.
25 years ago (1993): Illinois Wesleyan freshman guard Traci Butler was named the CCIW women’s basketball player of the week after leading the Titans to three victories. Butler scored 30 points in an upset of league-leading Augustana, 25 against Wheaton, and 33 in a win over Illinois Benedictine.
50 years ago (1968): Dave Reeves, the least know Titan of them all, sparked Illinois Wesleyan’s deliberate basketball team to a 71-64 upset victory over Millikin in a CCIW game at Fred Young Fieldhouse. The Titans celebrated Coach Dennis Bridges’ 29th birthday a day early by handing Millikin its first loss in 10 conference games.
