25 years ago (1987): Eric Niepagen’s hit in the bottom of the ninth scored Bubba Bell to lift the Bloomington Hearts major fastpitch softball team to a 1-0 victory over Taylorville at O’Neill Park. The Hearts, 64-17, earned a sweep with a 4-2 victory in the nightcap.
50 years ago (1962): Jerry Iler of Le Roy bested Don Evans of Ellsworth in a 1-0 mound duel that gave LeRoy the Corn Belt League championship. Ellsworth won the nightcap, 6-5.
