5 years ago (2014): Illinois State sophomore Regan Romshek has been named the Missouri Valley Conference Pitcher of the Week for softball. Romshek posted a 1.09 ERA in 19⅓ innings pitched, but was a tough-luck loser twice, going 1-2 in her three starts.

15 years ago (2004): Jeremy Pickrel had arguably his best all-around performance of the season and freshman Dan Frega picked up his first win in Illinois State’s 14-6 victory over Purdue. Pickrel went 3-for-5 with four runs batted in, two runs scored, a home run and three stolen bases.

25 years ago (1994): Tri-Valley’s Allen Bradd recorded the second longest distance in Class A shot put history in a 90-42 track and field win over Lexington. Bradd’s heave was 61 feet, 8½ inches, bettered only by Fulton’s Steve Brondyke with a throw of 63-0 in 1979.

50 years ago (1969): Each of the four returning lettermen on Illinois Wesleyan University’s golf squad scored lower on the Titans’ southern trip than a year ago. “I thought the kids played pretty well,” said Coach Don Larson. Leading golfer was Larry Caton with an average of 75.1 strokes per 18 holes.
