5 years ago (2014): Seniors Victor Davis and Andrew Ziemnki are the co-winners of the Most Valuable Player award for the Illinois Wesleyan men’s basketball team. Both were first-team all-College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin choices. The Titans advanced to the NCAA Division III national tournament before losing in the semifinals.

15 years ago (2004): Nick Chilczenkowski slugged a three-run homer in the third inning to help Illinois Wesleyan claim a 9-5 victory over Illinois State in the first baseball meeting in 11 years between the two schools. About 1,000 attended the first Horenberger-Bass Classic at Horenberger Field.

25 years ago (1994): Eureka College ran its softball winning streak to 13 with a 4-0 and 5-4 doubleheader sweep over Olivet Nazarene. Tina Sharp threw a seven-inning shutout in the opener and had two hits and knocked in the game-winning run in the nightcap.

50 years ago (1969): Illinois State, with Tom Jacobsen shooting a 79, captured the team title in the third annual North Central Invitational Golf Tournament at the par 72 Cress Creek Country Club. Other ISU scorers were Frank Niepagen (80), Joe Plack (80) and Pete Summers (82).
