5 years ago (2014): Illinois Wesleyan’s Bobby Czarnowski was named the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Hitter of the Week. The senior outfielder batted .533 with seven runs, one triple, two home runs, six RBIs and a 1.067 slugging percentage for the Titans.

15 years ago (2004): Illinois State basketball coach Porter Moser confirmed that sophomore center Marcus Arnold asked to be released from his scholarship. Arnold was the team’s leading rebounder and second-leading scorer the past season and was voted captain of the Missouri Valley’s most improved team.

25 years ago (1994): Jodi Burch got the pitching win and a save as Illinois State’s softball team swept a Missouri Valley Conference doubleheader from Wichita State, 7-6 and 2-0.

50 years ago (1969): Normal Community High School’s Gary Huppert was chosen most valuable on this year’s swimming team and Mike Day was selected for the same honor on the wrestling team. It was the second straight year Huppert has won the swimming award.
