5 years ago (2013): Josh Wallick posted a 51-0 season record for Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley/Fisher wrestling team that captured the Class 1A state championship. For his efforts, he was named the Pantagraph Area Wrestler of the Year.
15 years ago (2003): Illinois Wesleyan rallied around grieving teammate Chris Silagi after the death of his father and, buoyed by their support, the senior from Oswego helped the Titans get past Blackburn, 79-59, in the first round of the NCAA Division III playoffs at Shirk Center.
25 years ago (1993): Lisa Noble and Cathy Arnold scored 22 of Gibson City’s 29 fourth-quarter point as the Greyhounds rallied for a 61-51 victory over Stockton and third place in the Class A girls state basketball tournament. Gibson City finished 30-2 for the season.
50 years ago (1968): Lincoln, paced by the record-setting performance of Steve Baker, defeated Chicago Heights, 67-57, for the State Grade School Lightweight Basketball championship. Baker tallied 32 points in the title contest and 120 for four games in the tournament, breaking the old record of 115.
