5 years ago (2005): Illinois State forward Lorenzo Gordon, a junior college transfer from St. Louis, was named to the all-Missouri Valley Conference first team and voted the league’s Newcomer of the Year. Gordon ranks fourth in the conference in scoring (16.6) and sixth in rebounding (6.7).

15 years ago (1995): Forward Josh Beenders took an inbounds pass and layed in the game-winning shot with four seconds left in overtime to propel Roanoke-Benson past Midwest Central, 62-61, in the semifinals of the Class A Fieldcrest Sectional.

25 years ago (1985): Gridley fell behind 16-6, but Brian Radke drilled four of five long-range jumpers to spark the fourth-seeded Redskins to a 57-51 victory over second-seeded University High in the Octavia Class A Regional title game. It was the 300th win for Gridley coach Pete Meiss.

50 years ago (1960): Maroa stunned Bloomington, 53-47, and Argenta rallied to nip Trinity, 61-54, in the Bloomington Regional basketball tournament. Junior Odle and D’Wayne Lynch made Maroa’s offense hum and the Trojans had too much hustle for BHS.
