5 years ago (2013): Capitalizing on its size advantage and defensive tenacity, University High School’s boys basketball team scored 14 points before even allowing a shot in a 77-33 Corn Belt Conference victory over host Prairie Central. Keita Bates-Diop and Malik Wildermuth each had 14 points for the Class 3A No. 5-ranked Pioneers.
15 years ago (2003): Normal Community looked at home on its new basketball court by racing to a 17-0 lead and settling in to beat Danville, 59-48, as junior forward Chris Drennan had 16 points and 14 rebounds.
25 years ago (1993): Illinois Wesleyan sophomore forward Kristen Schroff has been named the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin women’s basketball Player of the Week. Schroff had a triple double in IWU’s 84-81 win over Aurora and collected 17 points and 11 rebounds in the Titans’ 101-54 win over Knox.
50 years ago (1968): Bloomington has been awarded the Amateur Softball Association Class A Tournament for 1969. The GMC Trucks, Bloomington’s Class A softball team which is sponsored by McLean County Truck Co., will be the host team, according to president Norval R. Stahly. It is the first time the tournament will be held in Bloomington.
