5 years ago (2005): Matt Liesman put on a long-range shooting clinic in the second half and Chris Drennan and Josh Bronke each hit two key free throws in the final 23 seconds of overtime as Normal Community stunned No. 14-state ranked Bloomington, 54-50, to win the Class AA Normal West Regional title.

15 years ago (1995): A long bomb from Nikki McCleary to Meredith Jackson led to a buzzer-beating, rim-rattling layup that gave University High a stunning 55-54 win over Gillespie in the third-place game of the Class A State girls basketball tournament. Normal Community (28-2) was fourth in Class AA.

25 years ago (1985): Illinois State’s women’s basketball team rallied from a 14-point deficit to beat Southern Illinois, 65-63, on a Marla Maupin 5-foot basket in the lane at the buzzer. ISU remained in first place in the Gateway Conference with a 16-1 league mark.

50 years ago (1960): Larry Shoemaker left them gasping as he scored 50 points to lead Normal Community to a 102-68 conquest of the host team for the Fairbury Regional basketball title. Shoemaker’s scintillating performance broke the NCHS record of 46 set by Everett Lockenvitz in 1956.
