5 years ago (2010): The Bloomington Extreme added a pair of offensive lineman who weigh a combined 680 pounds. Jerome Springfield (6-8, 350 pounds) spent two seasons at the University of South Florida. Fellow offensive lineman Ryan Cue (6-1, 330 pounds) started 40 games at Division II Wayne State and was named second-team all-conference as a sophomore.

15 years ago (2000): University High School volleyball player Ogonna Nnamani has been named the Gatorade Illinois High School Player of the Year. Nnamani tallied 461 kills and 64 blocks in her junior season in leading the Pioneers to the Class A title. She also was named Scholastic Sports America’s National Player of the Year.

25 years ago (1990): Pam Wollenschlager set the individual pace after the first weekend of competition of the Bloomington Women’s Bowling Association Tournament at Savidge Lanes. Wollenschlager recorded the best actual score (650) and handicap (655) in singles play.

50 years ago (1965): The Table Tennis Ladder rankings remained unchanged this week. Richard Shiers is first. Then comes Jerry Lederer, Lyn Buttry and Jim Jacobs.
