5 years ago (2014): Lowell Simmons used an 8-iron to record his first career ace on the 140-yard, No. 8 hole at Ironwood Golf Course. Witnessing the feat were Larry Hagar and Robert McCrary.

15 years ago (2004): Illinois State won its first Missouri Valley Conference women’s golf title since 1997. ISU sophomore Samantha Richdale tied for the individual title by shooting a 76 for a 54-hole total of 228 at Hickory Ridge Golf Course in Carbondale.

25 years ago (1994): Illinois State beat Illinois in baseball for the second time in two days, 6-3. Freshman pitchers Josh Gibbons and Dan Kolb were backed by four double plays and a timely two-run double by Paul Popovich.

50 years ago (1969): Speck, owned by John Davison of Normal, placed first in the 13-inch division of the Midstate Beagle Club field trials at Danvers. The 15-inch division winner was Casey, owned by John Holman of East Peoria.
