5 years ago (2010): Illinois Wesleyan’s Ali McCoy was named co-athlete of the week for indoor track by the College Conference of Illinois & Wisconsin. The senior achieved an NCAA provisional time in the 400-meter dash during a triangular meet with Washington (Mo.) and Rose-Hulman.

15 years ago (2000): It didn’t take long for Sharon Dingman to get the point regarding Illinois State volleyball. Or, specifically, the “Point, Illinois State!” Holding a red cardboard sign bearing those familiar words, Dingman was introduced as the successor to 13-year coach Julie Morgan.

25 years ago (1990): No. 1 seed Ridgeview survived a furious run by Gridley and a 29-point outburst by Brad Comincioli to edge the fifth-seeded Redskins, 56-54, in the semifinals of the 80th McLean County Basketball Tournament in Fred Young Fieldhouse.

50 years ago (1965): Flanagan's Harold Thiel took game scoring honors with 23 points in a 68-50 Midstate Conference victory over Woodland. It was the eighth league triumph for the Falcons against no defeats, and the 12th victory of the season with one loss. Gene Orendorff added 17 points for Flanagan.
