15 years ago (2003): Illinois State running back Demetrus Johnson was named the Gateway Conference offensive player of the week after rushing for a game-high 132 yards on 15 carries and scoring three touchdowns in the Redbirds' 49-6 football thrashing of Truman State.
25 years ago (1993): Tina Lindsey, senior co-captain of the Illinois State women’s golf team, was named Missouri Valley Conference Player of the Week after winning the Redbird Classic with a 1-under-par 218 over 54 holes. Her opening round was a career low.
50 years ago (1968): Fullback Jed Waters rushed for 122 yards in 16 attempts, and Illinois State used a crushing ground game to rout Wisconsin-Milwaukee, 34-14, in the Redbirds’ football opener. ISU’s backs ground out 405 yards to set a rushing-yardage record, eclipsing the old mark of 361 set in 1957.
