5 years ago (2008): Illinois Wesleyan women's soccer player Caroline Leighton, a Normal Community graduate, was named the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin co-player of the week. Leighton collected four goals and two assists in two IWU victories that helped the Titans secure its first CCIW title.

15 years ago (1998): University High School soccer coach Bodo Fritzen thought his team should have scored “four or five goals” in the first half. However, the Pioneers took a slender one-goal edge into halftime and edged Decatur MacArthur 2-0 to advance to its second state tournament in three years.

25 years ago (1988): Illinois State and Bradley, long-time rivals on the basketball court, appear to be headed for another showdown off the court. Both schools are working on bids to host the Missouri Valley Conference Tournament in March 1990.

50 years ago (1963): Don Hofer joined the hole-in-one club at Highland Park Golf Course when he used a seven iron to sink an ace on the 124-yard 12th hole. The shot was witnessed by Gene Ferris, John Scouller, and Ralph Winkler, who were in the foursome with Hofer.
