5 years ago (2008): Six-time champions Elston and Todd Mitchell didn’t match last year’s record-setting mark in qualifying for the Bloomington-Normal Two-Man Best Position Tournament. However, Team Mitchell was more than satisfied with a 13-under-par 59 at The Den at Fox Creek Golf Course. “We’re low so far,” said Elston Mitchell.

15 years ago (1998): Susan Wissmiller blasted a two-run home run in the fifth inning to power the Bloomington Lady Hearts to a 5-0 shutout over the West Virginia Dusters in women’s fastpitch softball pool play at the Decatur Tournament. Mandy White picked up the win for the Hearts, striking out six.

25 years ago (1988): John Kasch and Bud Concklin, two down at No. 17, rallied to stun Scott Henderson and Dave Specketer, 1-up in 20 holes, in a first-round match at the Bloomington-Normal Two-Man Best Position Golf Tournament at the ISU Golf Course.

50 years ago (1963): Laesch Dairy got great pitching performances as it took a pair of 1-0 victories from Monticello at Towanda. Bill Kennedy tossed a 1-hitter in the opener, and Hoke Wilson allowed just four safeties in the second game.
