Luke Wing slugged a three-run homer in the first inning Saturday to spark the BNBA Game Time Gym Gold 18-under team to a 17-3 win over Baxter Springs, Kan., in the Battle of Omaha Tournament at Omaha, Neb.
The Gold (20-1) completed a perfect 5-0 slate in its 24-team pool and advanced to today's 11:30 a.m. division semifinals in the 48-team tournament. The division title game will be at 3 p.m. today. The division winners will meet for the overall championship Monday.
Alex Buck had two hits and three RBI for the Gold; Derek Dauenbaugh collected two hits; and Bryan Huff and Nick Bowles each had two RBI.
Huff (2-0) and Dauenbaugh combined on a four-hitter. The game was halted after five innings because of the 10-run rule.
Stars roll to victory
Ryan Koerner went 4-for-5 to lead an 18-hit attack that powered the Central Illinois Stars 18-under travel team to a 20-5 win over Rochester in the Capital City Classic at Springfield.
Koerner went 4-for-5 with a homer, double, two singles and three RBI. DuShon Morris added three hits and two RBI for the Stars (7-5), who erupted for seven runs in both the third and fourth innings. The game was called after five innings because of the 10-run rule.
Jeff Ryan (1-0) went the distance for the Stars, allowing five hits with seven strikeouts and eight walks. The Stars are scheduled to play at 11 a.m. today.
