BLOOMINGTON - Heidi Harnisch and Mallory Heydorn each sank four 3-pointers as hot-shooting Illinois Wesleyan downed Augustana, 81-53, Tuesday night in women's College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin basketball action at Shirk Center.
Harnisch scored 23 points and Heydorn contributed 18. Claire Sheehan added three 3-pointers and 15 points on a night the Titans made 11 of 19 attempts from beyond the arc.
IWU (17-7, 9-4) was 31 of 64 from the field overall for 48.4 percent and went 8 of 9 from the free-throw line. Val Fleishman added 12 points and seven rebounds, while Katie Blonn had 10 points and six rebounds for the Titans, who outrebounded Augustana, 41-36.
"I think the key to winning tonight was ball movement - finding the open person and knocking down some shots," IWU coach Mia Smith said. "Defensively, I thought we could have executed better. But we outrebounded them, which was part of our game plan. We did a good job of that."
Kelly Sikora and Margan Skahill scored 13 points each to lead Augustana (6-18, 0-13). LeRoy High School graduate Nancy Marcum contributed 11 points and six rebounds.
The only down side for IWU was an ankle injury to Brianna Baker-Carvell, one of the Titans' top reserves. Smith said the ankle will be reexamined today to determine the extent of the injury.
