EUGENE, Ore. — Former Tri-Valley High School standout Stephanie Brown placed 10th in the Olympic Trials 1,500-meter run on Sunday while Pontiac’s Emily Grove tied for 10th in the pole vault.

Seventh with a lap to go, the Nike-sponsored Brown clocked 4 minutes, 11.13 seconds after running her final lap in 65.83 seconds and her penultimate lap in 65.90. Making the Olympic team were Jenny Simpson (4:04.74), Shannon Rowbury (4:05.39) and Brenda Martinez (4:06.16).

A senior-to-be at the University of South Dakota, Grove cleared an outdoor career best of 14 feet, 9 inches. Her indoor career best is 14-9½.

At the opening height of 14-5¼, Grove cleared on her third attempt and then needed two attempts to make 14-9 before missing all three tries at 15-1. The Olympic qualifiers were Jenn Suhr (15-9), Sandi Morris (15-7) and Alexis Weeks (15-5).
