EAST PEORIA — A victory in the 1,600-meter relay helped propel Eureka Junior High School's seventh grade boys to victory in the IESA Class 7AA state track and field meet Saturday at the EastSide Centre in East Peoria.
Eureka scored 35.5 points to capture the crown ahead of Frankfort Hickory Creek (31). Normal Kingsley tied for fifth with 22 while Olympia finished ninth at 17.
In the 8AA boys meet, Clinton's Keegan Dyer of Clinton won the 400 in 51.70. Mahomet-Seymour finished best among area schools in 11th with 16 points.
In the girls 8AA girls meet, Normal Kingsley captured the 1,600 relay in 4:12.73 on its way to sixth place with 20 points.
Windsor Roberts of Tri-Valley claimed the state title in the girls 7AA pole vault, clearing the bar at 10-10, an inch better than Lindsey Shouse of Chiddix. Madison Colburn of Eureka won the state discus title with a toss of 95-8.
Morton won the 7AA team title with 37 points. Tri-Valley topped area schools by tying for sixth with 16.
