BLOOMINGTON - The local semi-pro football team has a new look, a new name and will play in a new league as it embarks on the 2007 season today.
Known as the Twin City Storm last season, the Twin City Dawgs will play an 11-game schedule in the Great Midwest Football League, beginning with today's 7 p.m. road contest against the Kankakee Seminoles.
The Storm will play in the six-team South Division, which consists of teams in Ste. Genevieve, Mo., Springfield, Effingham and two St. Louis clubs.
The North Division has three Chicago-based teams, two in Kankakee and another in Joliet.
The Dawgs will play their home opener June 16 at White Oak Park in Bloomington against the St. Louis Saints. That game is designated as a family night, with free admission for kids 12 and under. The first two home dates will be play at White Oak Park, with the final three home dates at ISU's Hancock Stadium.
General admission tickets are $5 for adults.
The team is coached by Bryan Thomas, an assistant coach for the Class 6A defending state champion Normal Community High School football team.
