University High School’s girls swimming team took second place Saturday in the Midwest Invitational at Peoria, while Normal Community was fourth.
Champaign Centennial won the meet with 257 points. U High scored 234, while NCHS had 172.
NCHS’ Lisa Tommerdahl won the 500-yard freestyle in 5 minutes, 11.72 seconds and was second in the 200 freestyle. Tommerdahl also helped the Ironmen to second in the 400 freestyle relay.
U High was led by Emily Hovren, who was second in the 200 individual medley and 100 freestyle.
U High’s Kathleen Knight was second in the 100 butterfly and third in the 500 freestyle, while the Pioneers’ Kristi Stalter was third in the 100 backstroke and fourth in the 50 freestyle.
BHS’ Steffen sets mark
Bloomington’s Paige Steffen set a meet record while winning the 1-meter diving during the Mustang Invitational at Downers Grove.
Steffen scored 342.65 points to better the old mark of 340.45. BHS’ Kelsey Porter was second with 330.00 points, while the Purple Raiders’ Jenna Poisel took sixth (256.15).
BHS finished seventh in the team standings with 159.5 points. Wheaton co-op was the champion with 497.5 points.
