BLOOMINGTON — A defensive tussle turned against the Bloomington Thunder on a third-period penalty Saturday at U.S. Cellular Coliseum.
With Jacob Slager serving a double minor, Matthew Freytag scored with 11:01 to play for the only tally as the Tri-City Storm claimed the 1-0 victory before a crowd of 2,621.
Hayden Lavigne, making his second straight start for Bloomington, stopped 22 shots shots but was outshined by Tri-City's Alec Dillon, who made 25 saves for the shutout.
Bloomington outshot the Storm in each of the first two periods, with assistant captain Vince Pedrie putting a team-high eight attempts on Dillon.
Freytag's goal came off assists from Mason Appleton and Tony Dello.
The Thunder only had eight penalty minutes to 12 for Tri-City, but went 0 for 4 on the power play.
