After operating U.S. Cellular Coliseum through its first decade of operation, Central Illinois Arena Management stepped aside on April 1 and an Iowa-based firm was hired to manage the downtown arena.
VenuWorks received a three-year contract to oversee the 7,000-seat facility. Mayor Tari Renner promised the deal would be better for the city, with more financial transparency, which was a source of ongoing disputes with CIAM.
VenuWorks manages 52 other facilities, most in secondary markets similar to Bloomington's. It brought in Curtis Webb as executive director, but he was fired for misusing a company debit card in October and then charged with felony theft.
Lynn Cannon replaced him and assumed her duties in December.
