EUREKA - After the city council heard concerns from business owners about creating a designated business district, they decided on Jan. 16 to move the timeline.

They had had been working on a timeline to hold a public hearing, adopt ordinances and a plan at the March 5 council meeting, filing the ordinance with the state prior to April 1 and implementing the tax on July 1. That timeline has been moved up with the target of implementation of the tax changed to Jan. 1, 2019.

According to administrator Melissa Brown, the council wants to address some concerns and suggestions that came from business owners at a Jan. 9 meeting.

“They want to work with the business owners and get more input,” Brown said.

A series of additional public meetings will be set to talk about the proposal further. The next meeting will be held Feb. 20 at 6 p.m. at The Cannery.
