FLANAGAN – Alvin M. Rients, 90, died 4 p.m., Monday, Dec. 29, 2014, at Good Samaritan Home in Flanagan.
He was born Jan. 30, 1924, near Flanagan, the son of Lou and Sena Kettwich Rients. He married Irma Jean Stokowski on Aug. 1, 1948, in Minonk. She survives.
Other survivors include one brother, Glen (Joan) Barth, Minonk; one sister-in-law, Evelyn Rients, Flanagan and 17 nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers.
Alvin graduated from Dana High School. He served in the Navy during World War II aboard the USS Independence. Alvin farmed his entire life and loved talking about it and stayed very interested in it even after retiring. He was a member of St. Petri Lutheran Church, Flanagan. Alvin was a very kind and loving person. He will be missed greatly.
Services were Friday at Calvert-Johnson & Froelich Memorial Home in Flanagan. The Rev. Paul Lellelid officiated. Visitation was held before the service at the memorial home. Burial was in the church cemetery, where military rites were conducted by Flanagan American Legion Post No. 456.
