GOODFIELD – Cecil W. Nohl, 100, died at 9:52 p.m., Friday, March 2, 2018, at the Apostolic Christian Home of Roanoke.
He was born July 18, 1917, near Goodfield, the son of Joshua and Susie Reel Nohl. He married Maxine Wilham on Aug. 4, 1949, in Aledo. She died Sept. 29, 2001.
Survivors include four sons, Terry (Laura) Nohl and Dale Nohl, both of Goodfield, Ray Nohl, Roanoke and Wes (Marcy) Nohl, rural Deer Creek; four grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; three stepgrandchildren; one sister, Alice Nohl, Goodfield and his caregiver, Bunny Scott.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, four sisters and one great-grandson.
Cecil served in the Army during World War II and obtained the rank of Master Sergeant. He farmed in the Goodfield area for 10 years and was employed by the Illinois Department of Transportation and Mathis Lumber Co. of Goodfield. He served five terms as Woodford County Clerk from 1966 to 1988 and also served on the Goodfield Village Board. Cecil was a member of the Goodfield AC Church, Eureka American Legion Post No. 466 for 51 years and the Congerville Gun Club for 70 years. He enjoyed raccoon trapping and gardening and also loved Buddy, his beagle dog.
Services will be held Wednesday at 10 a.m. at the church with ministers of the church officiating. Visitation will take place Tuesday from 4 to 7 p.m. in the church’s fellowship hall and Wednesday morning from 9 to 9:45 a.m. at the church. Burial will follow the service in the Goodfield-Congerville AC Church Cemetery, rural Goodfield, where military rites will be conducted by Post 466. Argo-Ruestman-Harris Funeral Home in Eureka is in charge of the arrangements.
