EUREKA - Donald R. Kanaga, 82, of Eureka, formerly of Washington, died at 8:01 a.m., Tuesday, Nov. 28, 2017, at Advocate Eureka Hospital in Eureka.
He was born Aug. 17, 1935, in Ashley, Ind., the son of Ralph and Kennis Potts Kanaga. He married Judith A. Shore on Aug. 21, 1954, in Ashley. She survives.
Other survivors include four children, Wesley (Lori) Kanaga, Davenport, Fla., Bradley (Annette) Kanaga, Washington, Kelly (Milissa) Kanaga, Metamora and Nancy (Brian) Hoelscher, Eureka; eight grandchildren, Ashley (Denver) Watters, Jonathan Kanaga, Kody Kanaga, Kasey Kanaga, Erin (Jacob) Sweeney, Andrew Hoelscher, Matthew Hoelscher and Mia Hoelscher; two great-grandchildren, Cohen Sweeney and Rohmie Kanaga and one sister, Ruth Ann Witt, Ashley.
He was preceded in death by his parents and one son, Stanley Kanaga.
Don received a bachelor’s degree from Tri-State University in Angola, Ind. He worked as general manager for O’Neill Brothers in West Peoria before he retired in 2000. Don was a member of the Eureka United Methodist Church, Eureka, where he participated in the UM Men and also enjoyed several Bible studies. He loved gardening, watching his grandchildren’s sports, traveling, reading anything he could and telling stories to anyone who would listen.
Services will be held this evening at 7 p.m. at Deiters Funeral Home in Washington with the Rev. Paul Walles officiating. Visitation will be today from 4 to 7 p.m. at the funeral home. A graveside service will be held Friday at 10 a.m. in Glendale Cemetery, Washington.
