EUREKA - John V. Schwarzentraub, 89, died at 10:50 a.m., Thursday, Jan. 1, 2015, at Lutheran Hillside Village in Peoria.
He was born January 15, 1925, in Peoria, the son of Victor and Augusta Moehl Schwarzentraub. He married Doris Dausmann on Sept. 5, 1948, in Washington. She survives.
Other survivors include three daughters, Mary Catania, Industry, Carol (Bill) Sherman, Kingston and Barb (Gary) Hodel, Carlock; one son, John (Connie) Schwarzentraub, Eureka; one granddaughter, Sarah Schwarzentraub; one brother, Paul (Rosemary) Schwarzentraub, Morton; one sister-in-law, Donna Dausmann, Morton and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
John farmed his family’s land outside Eureka his entire life. He was a member and past president of the Eureka Farmers’ Grain Board and the Illinois Farm Bureau Farm Management Board. John also served on the Washington High School Board and the Tazewell County Service Company Board. He was a lifelong member of St. Mark’s Lutheran Church in Washington.
Services will be today at 11 a.m. at the church with the Rev. John Bates and the Rev. Richard Hanson officiating. Visitation will be this morning from 10 to 11 a.m. at the church. Interment will follow the service in Hirstein Cemetery, Morton. Deiters Funeral Home in Washington is in charge of the arrangements.
