EUREKA– Leo W. Goebel, 94, died at 5:26 p.m., Thursday, March 1, 2018, at the Apostolic Christian Home of Eureka.
He was born July 23, 1923, in Secor, the son of George and Henrietta Gassner Goebel. He married Lena Macchitelli on May 8, 1947, in Washington. She died in January 2002.
Survivors include two sons, Ronald (Theresa) Goebel, St. Charles, Mo., and Morris (Nancy) Goebel, Jerseyville; one daughter, Alisa (John) Hines, Eureka; 11 grandchildren 12 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one son, four brothers and four sisters.
Leo served in the Army during World War II. He worked as a tool and dye maker for Ford Tractor, was also employed at ACF-American Car Foundry- of St. Charles and as a personnel manager at Carter Carburetor of St. Louis, Mo., before he retired. Leo was a member of St. Luke’s Catholic Church, Eureka.
Services will be held Thursday at 10:30 a.m. at the church with Nathan Goebel officiating. Visitation will take place Wednesday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Argo-Ruestman-Harris Funeral Home in Eureka and Thursday morning from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church. Military honors will be conducted after the service at the church. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery in Florissant, Mo.
Memorials may be made to the American Red Cross or to any veteran’s fund.
