MINONK - Both Roanoke-Benson and Fieldcrest were seeking win No. 12 on the season Tuesday night. The Knights were able to get there in a 42-39 defensive battle.
“It was two really good teams getting after it,” stated Fieldcrest coach Matt Winkler. "Both teams really wanted it. Every possession was important.”
Jackson Puetz scored a game-high 19 points, including a banked in go-ahead three-pointer with 2 minutes and 30 seconds remaining for Fieldcrest (12-2).
R-B (11-4) received 13 points from Kyle Kolb. The Rockets fell behind 9-0 at the start, but eventually took the lead with 3:00 left at 34-32 before the Puetz triple, his fifth of the game.
“That’s what you’re going to get with two good teams,” said R-B coach Abe Zeller of points being tough to come by. “Matt’s teams always play tough defense and we pride ourselves on defense. Our kids battled on the defensive end.”
