Friday, 7 p.m. @ Poorbaugh Field
Coaches: F- Derek Schneeman, fifth season, 31-14 record; T: Zach Zehr, second season, 2-9 & sixth overall, 36-19
Last meeting: week eight of 2013 season, 12-0 Fieldcrest
All-time: 7 to 6 Fieldcrest
The skinny: With league heavyweight Gibson City-Melvin-Sibley on deck, Fieldcrest will attempt not to be guilty of a look ahead. The Knights hit the road for the first time, as they venture southwest in a crossover Heart of Illinois Conference contest. The Turks have dropped their first two contests both on the road, but a couple bounces in their favor could very easily make them 2-0. They fell 14-13 to Route 9 rival Deer Creek-Mackinaw and 26-21 against Fisher in divisional action. Junior running back Nate Nguyen gained 75 yards versus DCM. Tremont returns seven starters on offense that also includes junior back Caiden Buster and a pair of linemen in senior Dylan Michal and junior Zak Wagenbach. Buster (linebacker), Nguyen (safety), Michal (tackle) and Wagenbach (tackle) are among eight defensive starters that return.
While Fieldcrest has scored 54 points in two games, the offense has been plagued by turnovers to the tune of seven giveaways.
Zehr is a DCM graduate who served as defensive coordinator under Brett Cazalet with the Knights. Zehr followed Cazalet when the latter took over at Dunlap. He was there before Zehr was hired at Arcola, where he posted a 34-10 record over four seasons, including the one A title in ’15, a 35-17 victory over Stark County.
