A Bloomington police officer looks for evidence Thursday night at the scene of a shooting in front of 1716 Springfield Road, Bloomington.

BLOOMINGTON — One man was wounded in a gunfire incident Thursday night at a south Bloomington apartment complex.

An undetermined number of gunshots were reported about 9:15 p.m. in the Highland Hills Apartments complex in the 1700 block of Springfield Road, police said.

A 20-year-old man wounded in the leg was driven by others at the scene to Advocate BroMenn Medical Center, BPD spokesman Elias Mendiola said Friday. His injuries are believed to be non-life threatening, said police.

An 18-year-old Normal man was arrested on drug and resisting arrest charges as part of the police investigation but he is not believed to be connected to the shooting incident, according to Mendiola. The investigation into the shooting is ongoing.

Neighbors reported hearing two gunshots in quick succession and then seeing about four teenagers or young adults run east from the scene in front of the building at 1716 Springfield. They also reported seeing a sport utility vehicle speed away, and police said a second vehicle may have been involved.

The parking lot area in front of 1716 Springfield, a three-story, 12-unit apartment building, was cordoned off with police tape and police searched the area for shell casings and other evidence.

Anyone with information is asked to contact BPD Detective Roth at 434-2379. Information may also be provided anonymously to McLean County Crime Stoppers at 828-1111.
