MINONK -- Fieldcrest West Elementary now has laptop mobile computers.
"We're hoping to use those in the library as we are introducing more technology into our instruction," district librarian Julie McNamara said.
The laptops at East Elementary have been checked out from the library every day, she said. The high school also has 20 new laptops.
The high school also has two e-readers, a Kindle and a Nook. Students have been able to check out a Kindle since January, allowing the library to offer a second copy of popular books and some out-of-print books.
"I couldn't bring it to you tonight because it's checked out," she said during a recent school board meeting.
The library is considering buying some electronic books, which are less expensive and easier to maintain than printed books.
The high school library has a new look to go along with the new technology. McNamara said the new lounge area has helped make the library an even more popular place.
"Our daily population and usage has nearly tripled from where we were last year," she said.
The prom court decided to have its picture taken in the lounge, she said, noting she was excited that the students thought the lounge was "cool."
"We wanted it to be welcoming and inviting and kind of a place to be," she said.
